The Light that Blinds

You hold on to yourself
you're afraid you might
get left behind

and so you hide your eyes
afraid that the light
will make you blind
- Alexi Murdoch

It's hugely unnerving to take a risk and make that leap of faith that may make every one of your dreams come true. But what is the point in doing something you dont love just because you dont know what could happen if you did something you did? Ever since Steve Jobs died, Ive been reading up on the things he said and did (always too late, sadly). But the way he lived was incredible. I would die happy if I achieved as much as he did in a lifetime. So really, there is no time to waste. Embrace the light!

Birthday Hunt for Treasure!

This was a little something I created for Siddharth's birthday. I decided to do something fun and slightly different from the usual cake cutting session at midnight, and so the treasure hunt was born :)
The whole thing was fairly simple and uncomplicated, I didnt want him to be searching till the wee hours so kept it as direct as I could.

So I illustrated a map of our home, and drew in the little bits of furniture that were relevant. I hid 10 things in the house, the biggest present of all being on the terrace :) which explains the staircase leading to the clouds that you see in the illustration! and then I penned in the numbers - 1 to 10 next to the area they were hidden in and he had to hunt for them in the sequence that I wanted him to find each present! The very first one was the birthday cap he has on :) Oh and the edges of the map I burned to give it that old feel !

We had soo much fun doing this, it was worth all the time spent planning it.
And the search went on for a whole hour :) I hope you had a great weekend! much love.

The next little treasure was a cake hidden under our dining table :)

                                                                    puzzling over the map

Silly things that you do for love make me smile :)

The Fragmented Soul

I have talked about how I would love to live in my subconcious world.and free myself from reality. But like I said earlier, it's not an easy task. To awaken all your senses, and achieve that sense of peace one needs to be freed from one's own ego. The ego ties you down to society and our reality as we know it. And once you are free from your ego, you reach your soul and connect with who you really are which would be beautiful. But we all have our egos firmly ingrained, and what is the ego made of? I figure, the seven deadly sins we are all so familiar with are pretty much the vices that make up our ego and obsession with self.

So I decide to put a character to each of these seven sins. The first one I've done is Envy.
Envy tears apart the soul leaving only fragments behind in fiery emotion. I see the ruthless vulture,
the enormity of the sea as part of the energy forces that would exist in a creature called envy.
I feel like a large chunk of my energy and emotion has gone into this piece, I hope it does something for you. Would love to hear your thoughts - both on the subject and the illustration.

Lost in The Sea

                                                                   For whatever we lose,
like a you or a me
                                                                                   It's always ourselves we find
                                                                                                   in the sea.

Magical Market Worlds

A world on its own
with its mystic folk

Eyes that beckon
colours that lure

In clouds of spice
 I see dreams lurk.

Goubert market, 6 am - At first glance its noisy, dirty, complete mayhem. But then i see the colours and textures and bright eyes around me and am charmed by the shiny green chillies in the rustic sack, by the eyes of the magician with leaves spread about him, putting on a show for the world. I love to take portraits and study faces with stories written all over them. But I realise that Im shy of the questions that inevitably get thrown at me and not a great talker, so maybe when I get over that, I'll have a few more portaits to show ! Im also just picking up photography, this was my first real session, so plenty of room for improvement ! but I did want to share the experience. do hope you enjoy them.

The Wall that Flies

Joy freed from the bond of earth's slumber
                                                                                     rushes into numberless seeds,
and dances in the air for a day - Tagore

I love my home, and I've been trying to pour all my love into it so that in return, it keeps me inspired. I live in Pondicherry, and the houses here can be a bit strange (in a good way). In my apartment we have a lot of outdoor space, and there is a wall next to the washbasin just outside the kitchen (where we brush our teeth :) that Ive been wanting to do something nice with for a loong time now, and YAY I finally did !
Ive spent yesterday and a bit of today covered in paint and painted my wall a beautiful blue - which happens to be my happy colour right now, and then I drew some magic seeds. I hope you like it, im thrilled with all the colour there right now :)

                                                                           Before !

blue

And after ! I love to look at my new blue wall, it makes me feel so free and a bit like i could fly off any   second. must be the magic seeds :)

Love Fear & Joy

My heart swims, with emotion.. love, fear, joy.
I sometimes dont know where to put all of it.
Maybe it will all burst out of me someday,
like a bunch of unrepaired leaks.

Magic in My Eyes

The waves are your soul
your body no longer yours
close your eyes
and let the magic flow.

I went for a water shiatsu spa treatment, where the unexpected happened. My mind treated me to technicolour pictures, and i watched for an hour while my body floated and spun. it was magical and these are some of the drawings that resulted. done in pencils.

The theory behind Watsu is that it messes up your perception of time and space because you are floating in water, which brings you to a very deep state of meditation. its very relaxing and worth a try.
