Skinny Scribbles!

I've really had a hard time keeping this leetle bit of excitement from all of you, but Im doing a childrens book with Scholastic :D And as you know, I have reallly been wanting to do one, so Im thrilled to bits to be covered in ink and paint drowning in a gorgeous story about a little girl called Samina and an envelope child called Skinny Scribbles and their whole adventure. Its funny, it makes you go aww sometimes and I love how dreamy the whole story is. It goes into production in April me thinks, I will let you know when its out!
So yes, I love it  and I love illustrating it. Its also in black and white! Im so used to spending hours with my colours that its a refreshing change to play with black and white again. I hope you like it !! Here are a few illustrations from the book :)

Im also off for a very exciting sounding trip to Bikaner, to be part of the Kabir yatra ! check out kabiryatra.org. Hoping to be filled with Sufi wisdom and all the love they sing about. So Ill see you next in March! much love.

The Fragmented Soul

I have talked about how I would love to live in my subconcious world.and free myself from reality. But like I said earlier, it's not an easy task. To awaken all your senses, and achieve that sense of peace one needs to be freed from one's own ego. The ego ties you down to society and our reality as we know it. And once you are free from your ego, you reach your soul and connect with who you really are which would be beautiful. But we all have our egos firmly ingrained, and what is the ego made of? I figure, the seven deadly sins we are all so familiar with are pretty much the vices that make up our ego and obsession with self.

So I decide to put a character to each of these seven sins. The first one I've done is Envy.
Envy tears apart the soul leaving only fragments behind in fiery emotion. I see the ruthless vulture,
the enormity of the sea as part of the energy forces that would exist in a creature called envy.
I feel like a large chunk of my energy and emotion has gone into this piece, I hope it does something for you. Would love to hear your thoughts - both on the subject and the illustration.

Let the Wings Fly

                                                                  minds underground moths
                                                                                               grow filmy wings
                                                                                          and take a farewell flight
into the sunset sky - Tagore

I feel like one enthusiastic cutlet. 2 posts in one day. But Ive been very excited lately, trying out new styles and reading endlessly about all sorts of things. For those of you who don't know, Im on a sabbatical of sorts . Taking a break after many years of working and its been about 2 weeks now that ive had the time to doodle and dive into this cloud of freedom.

I have always believed that to do your best work, you need to free yourself from reality, and from your own mind. Enter your subconcious dream world where magic and beauty lurk, and then draw, paint and get that image onto paper. But its hard to escape from your own mind. I did have one beautiful experience that Im dying to tell you of, maybe tomorrow..

Song of the Magic Seeds

Weeping sky
We bring the sun
to make you glad
and fill you with the day

Quiet tree
We have the wind
to make you dance
and fill you with our play

And you shall be glad
and you shall dance
and you shall come
to hear our song
and learn its tune
before it fades away
