Reflections

We are but a reflection of ourselves
There is no beginning and there is no end.
Its the circle of life.

Its time for a change in the world and its people.
Imagine all the people sharing all the world
You may say Im a dreamer
But im not the only one
I hope someday you will join us
and the world will live as one.

Fairytale Love

You probably already have this figured out, but i love stories. And i think im going backward mentally, because instead of reading intellectually stimulating books, these days i find myself going back to the enid blytons and other fairytales kids read. it makes it so much easier to live in a bubble.
A new project for a client who has just had a little girl, and is giving me such a treat, by asking me to do a series of illustrations for the babys nursery. And the whole theme is a little girl entering a magical world.

There is a short little story behind it, and there are going to be five illustrations! Ill tell you the story when all five are done! Oh oh good news! Skinny Scribbles has been published!! I have a copy in my hands, and I think you should be able to buy it! Im very happy with the print, it looks lovely, if i may say so myself :)
Half the weeks over, and the way times-a-flying, it should be the weekend before you know it, have a good one! much love.

Unknown Possibilities

Im stepping into the unknown once again, it really is a giant black hole and I have no idea what is
going to happen in the next few months. For someone who loves to be in control this is pretty horrifying.
(Were moving to chennai :)

But I read a book recently, that spoke about our subconcious and it leading us to the right path. I call it my instinct, and Ive learned to trust it and not fight it. But it inevitably means that I sometimes have no real reason for doing what Im doing. Except that it feels right. After all this time, living in Pondicherry I never did read aurobindos work, and I rather like what he says below.

Our soul from its mysterious chamber acts
Its influence pressing on our heart and mind
Pushes them to exceed their mortal selves.
It seeks for Good and Beauty.
We see beyond self's walls our limitless self,
We gaze through our world's glass at half seen vasts,
We hunt for the truth behind apparent things.
Our inner mind dwells in a larger light,
Its brightness looks at us through hidden doors
Our members luminous grow and Wisdom's face
Appears in the doorway of the mystic ward
When she enters into our house of outward sense
Then we look up and see, above, her sun

Strangely enough, this sketch is something I did months ago, I came across it yesterday and it seemed to fit how I was feeling right now. Incase you noticed my absence last week, its because I was trudging through chennai looking for the right house, which we did find :) Its beautiful, with a garden and terrace! Something to look forward to.

Turn on your Heartlight

A friend of mine is doing something incredibly exciting. She is taking part in The Mongol Rally. They are going to be driving a car all the way from Italy to Mongolia!! 10,000 miles , mountain ranges, rivers, deserts and proceeds go to charity! They are also going to be putting up a website. And she asked me to create a map for their site that would reflect a feeling of adventure! So I created this map, inspired from the Gond style of painting from Madhya Pradesh, with a rather contemporary twist to it :) The sun, moon, stars, forests, rivers, mountains, whirling dervishes. I wish I was doing something as beautiful as this !

Neil Diamond once said,
Turn on your heartlight
let it shine wherever you go
let it make a happy glow
for all the world to see.

So thats what we have to do :) Travel the world and spread the joy ! I could do that. Sometimes I think all i want to do is travel, just keep going. that might be the ideal life. Have a good week !

A World With a Story

The sky, the sea, carved stones that don't realise they are old, but know that they are special.
The shore temple has been eroded by the waves from the sea, and the heavy sea winds. But that's what makes it so beautiful, almost soulful. While walking through it, I could sense the many secrets held within its walls. The carvings are almost not there. a figment of your imagination. Surrounded by the sea as it once was, how mystical it would have been. I haven't looked enough, but have to leave.      Mahaballipuram '11

Magical Children's Worlds

The beginning of another week - Time seems to be flying away from me these days, and its going off faster now that the year is coming to an end. With so much planned, it feels like a prank being played. sigh.

I had mentioned to you about my desire to illustrate for childrens books, I got a few calls since then and though so far only one has worked out, Its been so so much fun making samples for these lovely stories.

I cant tell you too much about the story, (that would be wrong since its not mine) but its about a puppy whose parents are trying to put to bed, so in this illustration shes being given a bath in the hope that she will feel sleepy! :) I loved doing it, its my first foray into the children's book world and fingers crossed, I'm going to get my chance at doing a book soon!

Had a great weekend, and a halloween party - lots of decorations and crafts for that one - so youll be seeing some pictures soon !! Have a lovely week ! Much love !!

Magical Market Worlds

A world on its own
with its mystic folk

Eyes that beckon
colours that lure

In clouds of spice
 I see dreams lurk.

Goubert market, 6 am - At first glance its noisy, dirty, complete mayhem. But then i see the colours and textures and bright eyes around me and am charmed by the shiny green chillies in the rustic sack, by the eyes of the magician with leaves spread about him, putting on a show for the world. I love to take portraits and study faces with stories written all over them. But I realise that Im shy of the questions that inevitably get thrown at me and not a great talker, so maybe when I get over that, I'll have a few more portaits to show ! Im also just picking up photography, this was my first real session, so plenty of room for improvement ! but I did want to share the experience. do hope you enjoy them.
