Forever Natural

A long time ago, I wrote about a diary I was working on for Hidesign. It turned out to be a piece that came very close to my heart, full of soul and much meaning. To me, it is very special.

They kindly wrote a few lines about me and my art and my long connection with the brand in one of the introductory pages in the diary.

My illustrations are about deep emotions and strong energies- Passion, Individuality, Sensuousness, Freedom, Love expressed through the various forces of nature - earth, wind, water, spirit. And the source of all that energy comes from the moon. The moon features in all the illustrations and all through the diary at various stages of its cycle. From a glowing full moon to no moon at all.

There are so many more illustrations to show you, but this is just a glimpse. I love the cover, a deep blue
pebble leather. simple and gorgeous. If you have one of these - I hope you are enjoying writing in it!

Have a wonderful weekend. much love.

Under the Sea

To see the world in technicolour, to not have to imagine because in front of you is the unimaginable.
I never dreamt it was really possible and I feel so fortunate to have seen. I spent an incredible week at the andaman islands and each day was a feast for the senses. seas that lasted forever, turquoise blue beyond belief. fish in a million colours, shapes and sizes- glowing. graceful. ( I was the clumsy creature underwater). I loved loved loved this beautiful, magical, mysterious place where ancient tribes still live a life untouched by civilization, elephants swim and dolphins- I saw a dolphin! you have to see to believe.

so heres a glimpse - and a few more next week !!

Dream Base

This is something Ive been wanting to do for a while now, Nobody tells you how hard it is to take interior shots! what looks good to my eyes, just doesnt come out the same on camera. But finally (with a little help from siddharth, who i frantically called while panicking about wrong light, etc) I shot some that dont look so bad :)
Welcome home ! I havent clicked every little bit, It was a race against fading light, so just the bits that I love. I love the lights hanging from a branch that I installed over my dining table, and the beautiful windows there. I love my kitchen which is so vintage - I painted it mint green to add to that whole feel! And my bedroom - that got painted blue ! I havent done such a super job with little bits of paint dripping onto the floor, im probably going to get yelled at by our landlord when he sees this :) but oh well, makes me happy for now! Its also our first grown up home - with real furniture ! I dont think I mind growing up so much :)

Turn on your Heartlight

A friend of mine is doing something incredibly exciting. She is taking part in The Mongol Rally. They are going to be driving a car all the way from Italy to Mongolia!! 10,000 miles , mountain ranges, rivers, deserts and proceeds go to charity! They are also going to be putting up a website. And she asked me to create a map for their site that would reflect a feeling of adventure! So I created this map, inspired from the Gond style of painting from Madhya Pradesh, with a rather contemporary twist to it :) The sun, moon, stars, forests, rivers, mountains, whirling dervishes. I wish I was doing something as beautiful as this !

Neil Diamond once said,
Turn on your heartlight
let it shine wherever you go
let it make a happy glow
for all the world to see.

So thats what we have to do :) Travel the world and spread the joy ! I could do that. Sometimes I think all i want to do is travel, just keep going. that might be the ideal life. Have a good week !

Lost in The Sea

                                                                   For whatever we lose,
like a you or a me
                                                                                   It's always ourselves we find
                                                                                                   in the sea.
                                                                                              - EE Cummings

The Wall that Flies

Joy freed from the bond of earth's slumber
                                                                                     rushes into numberless seeds,
and dances in the air for a day - Tagore

I love my home, and I've been trying to pour all my love into it so that in return, it keeps me inspired. I live in Pondicherry, and the houses here can be a bit strange (in a good way). In my apartment we have a lot of outdoor space, and there is a wall next to the washbasin just outside the kitchen (where we brush our teeth :) that Ive been wanting to do something nice with for a loong time now, and YAY I finally did !
Ive spent yesterday and a bit of today covered in paint and painted my wall a beautiful blue - which happens to be my happy colour right now, and then I drew some magic seeds. I hope you like it, im thrilled with all the colour there right now :)

                                                                           Before !

blue

And after ! I love to look at my new blue wall, it makes me feel so free and a bit like i could fly off any   second. must be the magic seeds :)

Magic in My Eyes

The waves are your soul
your body no longer yours
close your eyes
and let the magic flow.

I went for a water shiatsu spa treatment, where the unexpected happened. My mind treated me to technicolour pictures, and i watched for an hour while my body floated and spun. it was magical and these are some of the drawings that resulted. done in pencils.

The theory behind Watsu is that it messes up your perception of time and space because you are floating in water, which brings you to a very deep state of meditation. its very relaxing and worth a try.
